Cloris Leachman Dies At the Age of 94:

"There was no one like Cloris at one look. She had the power to break your heart or make you laugh to the tears on your face. You never know what Cloris will say or do and this unpredictable quality was part of her wonderful charm."

Green added:

“She loved her children and grandchildren in an unspeakable way.” She is a vegetarian all her life, and has been a passionate advocate for animal rights.

She was born in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1926. After graduating from Northwestern University and before starting her acting career, she participated in the Miss America contest in 1946.

The highlight of that career was in 1971 when Leachman won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Last Picture Show.

Leachman has been famous for decades working on television and has been nominated for more than 20 Emmys in her life, winning a record eight times (a record since Julia Louis-Dreyfus tied it).

Leachman, who appeared in three Mel Brooks comedies, continued acting regularly until her 90s and was a contestant on the "Dancing With the Stars" program at the age of 82.

She has three sons and a daughter. Her son Brian preceded her in death in 1986.
